All State Council Chairs introduced, New Chairs awarded pins.
Legislative Update by Craig Jeffries:
Introduced Phil Dunn who designed Advocacy Update.
Discussed Strategic Plans including several options for AORN GA direction
Invited input and opinions.
Starting monthly conference calls with State Coordinators as well as NLC.
Developing additional web resources and tools.
OH and TX facing ORT legislation.
NY and WV successful RN circulator legislation.
PA along with other states looking at RN circulator issues.
Reminder for all to contact your National & State Senate and House of Representatives to be on any Health Advisory Boards.
Model Bill to be proposed for ORT legislation.
All direct communication with AST to be by Craig Jefferies, Interim GA Director in coordination with Linda Groah.
Membership Update by Nancy Fellows:
Current AORN membership, 42,679.
New Award for "Outstanding Achievement in State Council Leadership". This award recognizes a current memeber of AORN and their State Council who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in guiding and developing their State Council. Deadline for submission is November 16, 2008. Application is in AORN Online.
Awards Banquet will be Sunday night. Original dinner format brought back.
Board Update by Nathalie Walker:
Congress Agenda has changed. Pre-Congress Friday and Saturday. 1st Forum & Meet the Candidates Sunday afternoon. Opening Session Monday. Specialty Assembly proposal presented.
Specialty Assembly Issues: Officers appointed by PE upon recommendation from SA
Options:
One $25. fee for access to all SA"s but must designate which ones you want to be active in if you want full participation.
Open forum access to all SA to view only.
No SA access at all.
Funding and delegate representation to stay the same.
Goals and reports may very depending on the structure.
2008-2009 State Council Leadership Goals Approved
"Sharing & Learning - Designs for Unity" Approved by members present.
Develop communication packet.
Expand communication to local chapters.
Share legislative issues and successes.
Implement State Council adoption program.
Generate discussion of RN Circulator practice issues.
Nurture State Council network support.
Stimulate new State Council formations.
Chair Clarifications for State Council Leadersip Group
Eligible members: Chair, Past Chair, Chair-Elect or Legislative Chair.
These three representatives provide for a smoother transition of State Council Chair participation.
SWOT Analysis
All State Councils are requested to fill out Analysis Sheet to participate in strategic planning for State Councils: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats. These will be filtered and evaluated on the next State Council Conference Call on Wednesday September 3, 2008.
