April 27 Business Meeting Summary
Our business meeting began at 1125.
Old Business:
Any chapter member who passes the CNOR exam between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 will get an incentive of $100.
AORN was in Anaheim this year. There were many opportunities for education throughout the sessions and on the exhibit floor. Many exhibitors offered two CEU"s instead of the usual one CEU. Upcoming Congresses include Chicago-2009, Denver-2010, Philladelphia-2011, New Orleans-2012, and San Diego-2013.
As an additional help for those wishing to take the CNOR exam, a study group is forming. There are four members from Mercy General as of now and several from Sutter that are interested. Those members interested are to contact Renee Dodge to try and organize a study time and place.
Future meetings have been organized at Herzog Medical on August 24th at 10am and the Sacramento Zoo on October 26th. Further information will posted on the website.
New Business:
Anyone wishing to submit ideas for future topics, please contact any of the officers listed on the website.
New officers are needed for our election that will take place the end of May. Anyone interested in serving as an officer is encouraged to contact any current officer to be included in the election. Those who have expressed an interest are Dawn Whiteside for President, Linda Riehle for Vice President, and Renee Dodge as the Treasurer. There has not been a volunteer for Secretary. By the end of June, there will be a post on the website listing those who are intersted in all positions. We do feel that those who are currently active in our chapter should be the ones to vote. We realize it is sometimes not possible to attend meetings and hope that having a website will make the information more accessible for those unable to attend the meetings.
Treasurer report. Renee Dodge stated that the only debits to our accounts are primarily for the meetings (lunches) and for AORN Delegates and Alternates. This year Delegates received $570 apiece and Alternates received $370 apiece. We have a balance of $2037. We feel that we should create some type of scholarship for nursing students in need. This is an opportunity for us as a chapter to give back to our community and our profession. Several options were discussed. Most individuals present at the meeting agreed that we should keep the scholarships local. Linda is looking into Los Rios, ARC, and Sierra College.
An additional charity option discussed was sending packages overseas. One of our very active chapter members, Kenny Harryman, was just sent overseas. I discussed the need for packages being sent to her fellow service people. She stated she would email a list of names, addresses and needed supplies for those soldiers who rarely, or never receive packages from home. The post office has a one price box available that can be packed with items regardless of the weight and sent overseas. When I receive the information I will post it here for those interested.
A question was raised about continuing to send postcards out for our meetings. The majority of those in attendance did want to continue to receive postcards. We currently have 223 members. This past meeting we had one of our best attendances of 26 people. AORN is currently promoting going green in our operating rooms and at home. As an adjunct to that effort maybe we could stop the postcards and encourage everyone to add this website to their favorites and check it at least once a month for updates, information, and future meeting dates. Please email your thoughts to me (dawn.aorn@comcast.net). This is not only about going green but reducing the cost of postage for 223 members when the attendance is a fraction of the total members.
The business meeting ended at 1156.
