Mattie Caquese C. Chaffin R.N., M.S.N. Professor Emeriti in Nursing, Los Angeles City College ended her struggle with Lou Gehrig"s Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Scoliosis) and began everlasting peace on Friday, February 29, 2008. She was at home in Los Angeles, California. Her birthdate was August 16, 1928. She was buried on March 11, 2008 in Springfield, MA next to her mother. Memorial services were held March 17, 2008 in Springfield.
A memorial service will be held in Los Angeles, Sunday April 6, 2008 at 1:00PM followed by a reception from 2-4PM.

Caquese was a Charter Member of AORN of Los Angeles. She was recognized at the Opening Ceremony of the AORN National Annual Congress for 50 years consecutive membership in AORN. She was a faculty member at LACC 1963 to 1995. AORN of Los Angeles bestowed on her the Third Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing. She led the Project Alpha Committee to a National Award. Her broad abilities have contributed to the profession of perioperative nursing as an OR Nurse and as a Nursing Educator.
