PROGRAM: Novel Treatments for Treating Brain Tumors

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This program is designed for all Operating Room registered nurses and surgical technologists. The speaker will present a clinical image of benign and malignant brain tumors including incidence, etiology and pathophysiology. The feasibility as well as the advantages and disadvantages of various treatment options will be discussed, including use of the Gamma Knife. Time will be provided for questions and answers.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
1. Describe the function of the Gamma Knife.
2. Name three (3) indications for Gamma Knife Surgery.
3. Describe the three considerations when determining treatment for benign and non-benign brain tumors.

Directions to Washington Hospital

From Oakland: Take 880 south to Mowry Ave. Turn left as you come off the freeway and follow Mowry to Washington West 2500 building. This is the building across the street, Civic Center Drive, from the main hospital. There is a Walgreen Drug store on the right facing the building. Park in the parking lot in front of the building and go in and make a left as soon as you get in the building and the auditoriums are on the left.

From Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Dublin: Take 680 to Niles Canyon and drive thru the canyon to Mission Blvd. Take a left on Mission to Peralta next stop light and make a right. Follow Peralta to Mowry and the hospital is on the left. The 2500 Washington West Building is the next building on the left after you cross Civic Center Drive. Park in the parking lot and enter the building from the front. The auditoriums are to the left after you enter the building.

You can also take 680 to Mission Blvd make a right on Mission and go to Peralta and make a left follow Peralta to Mowry and the hospital is on the left. The 2500 Washington West Building is the next building on the left after you cross Civic Center Drive. Park in the parking lot and enter the building from the front. The auditoriums are to the left after you enter the building.

Washington Hospital may also be reached via BART.
