February-March 2006-1
Dear AORN of Southern Arizona Members,
Well it"s almost that time of year again. " March Madness", with the "cats" competing in the final four. This is not just wishful thinking, I"m talking about the "Arizona Surgicats", lead by Peggy Wiggins. We will be competing in the second annual "Quiz Bowl" against three other teams from around the country at the AORN Congress in Washington, DC. The date is March 22 at 3:30 pm in Hall D. The other members of the team include Marsha Keller, Ellice Mellinger, Hooshang Nematollahi and myself. The "Quiz Bowl" is a fun way to test the knowledge of AORN members on the subject of evidence based nursing practice. I hope you can join us and help cheer on the "cats".
The March 11th meeting is going to be very important because we will be discussing the issues and candidates which will be shaping the future practice of perioperative nursing. I have assigned a few candidates to each of the delegates. They will present a brief description of the candidate’s previous contributions to AORN, and highlight key points in their election statements. This information, along with the proposed position statements, is available in the January issue of the AORN Journal. It is important that the membership let the delegates know how they would like them to vote at congress.
The nominating committee will be seeking candidates for our own chapter for next year. The opportunities to serve the chapter will be: President elect/Vice President, Secretary, Board of Directors (two), and nominating committee (two). Willingness to serve forms will be available at the March Meeting. We have a wealth of talent in our membership, and we need your help to keep our chapter going strong! I hope to see you all at the March Meeting.

Sincerely,
Kay Lingeman, RN, BSN, CNOR
